CCCP Masala

18Nov06

This is the second entry in my Cultural Mashup series.
What was the inspiration?
I grew up in “Hindi-Russi bhai-bhai” era. The prize of almost every drawing competition I won, was a set beautifully drawn, badly translated Russian childern’s books. A generous gift from ???? ????????? ???????????????? ?????????.
I learnt much later that CCCP actually meant SSSR (Soyuz [...]

Global Indian

10Nov06

Lately my posts have few and far between.
I am working on a project that’s taking more time than I had expected. It’s a series inspired by the global Indian presence. One day, someone will write something deep and thoughtful on the subject.

Turned out a bit Sponge Bob-ish. And reverse om on the side makes it extra special.
As they say in Texas, Happy Diwali y’all.
*Kandil: Not this one. Move a few [...]

Good news for all you members of so-bad-it’s-good club.
The Ramsays are here.
I remeber trying to sneak in the theater with help of Kohl stick mustache. The doorkeeper laughed and told us kids to buzz off. Eventually we were let in after giving him our samosa money.
The scariest thing was the number of roaches in the [...]

Exhibit 1: The “new” MP tourism logo.

Exhibit2: The famous tiger of Shotokan Karate.
Aplogies for Ellroyish alliteration, but the crime demands nothing less.
The tiger was painted by the great Japanese artist, Hoan Kosugi, to honour Master Funakoshi (father of modern Karate) who used it on the cover of his first book.
A word of advise to the [...]
